We need volunteer mates to run the boat. A berth is reserved in the forepeak.
We welcome trainees who have done our Competent Crew course – as well as other local sailors who have some time to give to our project. We want to build a bank of volunteer mates so that we can sustain Leila into the future.
Sailing as a volunteer will cost you nothing except your travel to the boat. You will be the first to be offered any spare berths on deliveries or races, and invited to mates training days. We can train you up to RYA Watchleader, and even get further training for under 30’s financed by Trinity House – vhf, safety at sea, RYA Yachtmaster. We have access to a smaller boat for mates training as you can’t learn to drive on Leila!
You will have to be DBS checked for youth (under 18) voyages, but this is quite painless – the odd driving offence or possession of dope don’t count.
