Just home from a month's voyage to Norway for a Tall Ships Race to Denmark with the best crew i have ever had the priveledge to sail with.
Steve who wrote this great shanty for us, is now joining us as a trainee.
Amy who joined us at the last minute cooked for us all the way back and may get a job on boats next year.
Vinny is our top man for deckwork and has the chance of a job with a local groundworking firm.
Ted from Yarmouth even took his hat off - said it was “An adventure that I will never forget that has given me a new outlook on life”
Ellis got the hang of the gps to navigate us home toLowestoft, and is well on his way to a career in the merchant navy.
Barrie was mate to Denmark and Bryan joined us for the homeward trip.
Not one whinge as they dragged themselves on watch every four hours. Not one complaint about soaked bedding and clothing.
Not one whimper as strong winds and seas tossed LEILA about.
All passed their RYA WATCHLEADER
APPROACHING the Norwegian coast after a long sail from Holland
Leila – Sea Shanty
CHORUS Leila oh Leila,
In East Anglia you'll see her,
Riding through rivers and rough northern seas.
Leila oh Leila,
Aged, Vintage and Free'r
Than any other soul or vessel in Gods fine blue land.
Shes a raw damp old girl,
As wet as she's rough,
No crew that ain't tough.
She spits in the eye,
Of high class company,
Built of ropes, knots and trees.
She's tears, blood and sweat,
Forms families on deck,
Explore peaceful freedom,
True sailing she protects.
Alike her merry skipper,
Captain Bevan hero,
Wearing a heart as deep as oceans,
No fear on show.
